Within the scope of National Forest Week, a Conversation on Turkey's Forests in the Context of Global Climate Change was Held in our Vocational School. As a speaker Chief Engineer of the Western Black Sea Forestry Research Institute, Dr. Aydın ÇÖMEZ, academicians and students from our university and other institutions participated.
In the conversation, ÇÖMEZ started his speeches by giving information about what global climate change is and its causes, and shared the data obtained in the past years and gave brief examples about the change and its effects. He added, "The planning of forestry activities in the context of global climate change is an important point; especially our General Directorate of Forestry and all our units pay great attention to the planning of forest areas and especially to afforestation activities, which are the most effective way to reduce the carbon dioxide content in the air. With the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) all countries, including our country, continue to work on the subject, and we, as a country, collect the data by making the necessary periodic measurements in our authorized institutions. With these data, we prepare periodic reports on the planning of forest lands and afforestation activities. Also, in all international and national platforms we inform people about this issue. ÇÖMEZ continued to his speech by saying “It is important for us to increase the level of knowledge and raise awareness of every citizen of the world on this issue." ÇÖMEZ, who made evaluations on the data belong to our country, then answered the questions from the participants and students.
Talking about the effects of climate change on vegetation, wildlife and natural disasters within the scope of the questions, ÇÖMEZ said, "We must ensure that our future generations are informed about this issue and that they personally continue their lives by taking this issue into account, and that they reach sufficient awareness at the point of precaution.” The interview ended with the presentation of the certificate of appreciation by The Director of our Vocational School, Dr. Kadri AKÇALI and the sharing of good wishes.
