Students of the Office Management and Executive Assistance Program at Bartın University’s Ulus Vocational School organized an event titled “Captivity of Words: Why Use English When Turkish Exists?” to raise awareness about language use.
As part of the event, first-year students prepared various posters highlighting the Turkish equivalents of English words frequently used in daily life, social media posts, and interpersonal communication. The visual materials displayed popular English expressions commonly used among young people together with their corresponding Turkish meanings through engaging visual presentations.
The event aimed to draw attention to the increasing use of foreign words in everyday language and to remind participants of the richness of the Turkish vocabulary. The posters prepared by the students were exhibited in the school corridors and attracted the attention of both academic staff and students.
The event was also attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Teoman Güner, Director of Ulus Vocational School, who reviewed the students’ work and expressed appreciation for their efforts. Director Güner thanked the instructors and students who contributed to the organization of the event and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening language awareness and promoting the conscious use of Turkish.
