Awareness Training on Combating Marine Litter Held

Within the scope of the Bartın Provincial Marine Litter Action Plan for the 2025–2029 period, approved by the Local Environmental Board under the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, an important training activity was carried out in line with the responsibility assigned to universities under the title of “Public Awareness Activities.”
In this context, an online training session was organized on April 15, 2026, at 14:00 by Dr. Recep Önder Sürmeli from the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design, with the aim of raising awareness on effective marine litter management and the sustainable use of natural resources.
The event, titled “Awareness Training on Effective Combating of Marine Litter,” was attended by students and academic staff from Ulus Vocational School and Bartın Vocational School Kurucaşile Campus. During the training, the sources of marine litter, its environmental impacts, its destructive effects on ecosystems, and the measures that can be taken at both individual and institutional levels were discussed in detail.
The training, which included interactive participation, emphasized the importance of sustainable environmental management, particularly in coastal areas, and highlighted the roles that young people can undertake in this process. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
It was stated that efforts to increase environmental awareness at Bartın University (BARÜ) will continue in the coming period through various training programs and activities.
